Geek speak ahead!  www. is called a subdomain a subdomain is commonly used to segregate content for example I have http://spy.wormeyman.com for my spyware page and http://free.wormeyman.com for my popular freeware post.  Therefore instead of allowing the www. to be typed in i’ll gently redirect users to http://wormeyman.com and post to you guys why it’s no longer necessary to type in www.  For fun try listening to radio ads and see how many companys list their address as www.example.com i’d say about half still use www.
