Happy end of 2005 start of 2006-Some plans i have for the new year

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

In 2006 i want to start a community blog with some students and friends at church where we can post some funny flash files and other media we find humorous i already have the domain and software to run it picked out i just need to figure out hosting and get around to setting it up and quite possibly designing a theme for it. As far as wormeyman.com i plan to continue the regular updates it seems that i’m on the 5th iteration of my blog and i’m posting news stories a lot more often now instead of just posting what’s going on in my life my readership/traffic has been climbing for the past 2 months when i started updating regularly again and i hope to keep the trend up. I hope to have my sister setup on a “real” blog that isn’t myspace but she really wants a service that she can use to prevent on-line stalkers and only have it so that people she wants can read it. I have no-idea what that could/would be but if anyone is familiar with the concept please tell me.

BetaNews | MS Confirms WMF Flaw, Variants Spread

Microsoft acknowledged late Wednesday the existence of a zero-day exploit for Windows Metafile images, and said it was looking into ways to better protect its customers. Even worse, by the end of the day nearly 50 variants of the exploit had already appeared.

Wow that is crazy 50 variants and we’ve yet (fortunatley) to have a worm or a virus spread out but i could definately se netsky or bagel spreading itself this way.

New update on the xbox360 lawsuit

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

On December 27, Microsoft’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on the basis that his Xbox was still under warranty.

The case, brought by Chicago resident Robert Byers and his attorneys, will be heard on January 10 in David Coar’s courtroom in Illinois District Court.

Aaron over at http://www.xboxoverheating.com/ seems to be the first person to cover this.

BetaNews | ‘Really Bad’ Exploit Threatens Windows

A new exploit has been discovered in the wild that affects fully patched Windows XP SP2 systems, according to reports by security firms F-Secure and Sunbelt. The malicious code takes advantage of a vulnerability in the WMF graphics rendering engine to automatically download and install malware.WMF, or Windows Metafile, is a vector based image format used by Microsoft’s operating systems. SHIMGVW.DLL is loaded to render the images and contains a flaw that opens the door for a malformed WMF image to cause remote code execution and potentially allow for a full system compromise.

Internet explorer and Mozilla Firefox are suceptible and i was able to find the exploit code in about 5 minutes. I don’t know how to run it but for all the Script Kiddie’s out there hacking tools have already been updated for it. I sure hope a workaround or a fix comes out soon.

A workaround has been discovered!

POTUS iPod: Totally Random

Bush: Lightweight, and crank it on, and you shuffle the Shuffle.

Hume: So you — it plays . . .

Bush: Put it in my pocket, got the ear things on.

Hume: So it plays them in a random order.

Ahh when 2 baby boomers talk about technology, this is probably the best quote from wired magazines 2005 Foot-in-Mouth Awards
