RE: Forums Can Kill

Friday, April 29th, 2005

This is a sad story of a man and online communities. According to the coroner he died of starvation. He was linked to 15,250 other community members, many of whom he exchanged notes with daily. He also contributed to 375 blogs and was expected to start an online column about the impact of interactive communications on health, when he died.

Ok that’s scarry, while i might have over 16,000 posts at various forums (16,000 of which are at boards.ign.com) i am only linked to by maybe 200 people.

I tweaked the template to add a lot of links including “good posts”, added my contact page to the navigation, and added my digg.com new feed.

When i thought i had finally found a medium that didn’t include advertising

Friday, April 29th, 2005

Some of my favorite tech sites now include advertisements in thier rss feeds, most feeds are just article stubs and lead to the site that has the full story/advertisments but i guess that isn’t enough for advertisers. Sure rss feeds can really beat the server, and rss is still in it’s infancy/toddler stages but still i do not appreciate advertising.

I owe the government $153

Yes that means i lost the ticket contested hearing, hopefully the girl that i hit doesn’t sue me because she can now that i was found liable. In addition the state called her as a witness against me which was pretty crazy. The whole court thing was pretty boring as i sat there the whole time listining to the others cases untill mine was called. 1 kid was in trouble for setting off a dry-ice bomb in his shool, the lady that hit the ambulence was there, 2 people were missing their court appointments one of which had a good medical excuse. All in all it was pretty lame/slightly depressing.

RE: You’re Invited: Bringing People to Church

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

In yesterday’s post about seeker-sensitive churches in Ohio, pastor Lee Powell of CedarCreek made the comment that despite all the advertising they do (he compared it to buying weekly tire ads for Sears), 80% of first time visitors come because they were personally invited. That’s huge. And frankly, that’s why the church has been around for 2000 years. Shawn Wood, the Creative Communications Pastor (what did Brad say about pastors?) at Seacoast, a multi-site church in South Carolina, e-mailed us recently to say that his church relies primarily on people…

This is so true, i know that when i am personally invited to events i am far more likely to go, just because i know that someone i know will be there and it is sort of a safety net.

Court today

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

I have my court appointement today, hopefully i can get my ticket price reduced. I realized/re-realized that i am HORRIBLE at following through with things. Which is not a good thing to have because that makes me generally lazy and un-reliable which is not a good quality for a christian, an employee, or a person in general. I don’t know how you learn “following through” but it is definately somethign i need a lot of work in.

In other news i have 500 songs left till i’ve rated my whole music collection, ohh and my typing/grammar is poor as well :(

RE: Mo. Man Spits Tobacco Juice on Jane Fonda (AP)

Thursday, April 21st, 2005

AP - A man spit tobacco juice into the face of Jane Fonda after waiting in line to have her sign her new memoir. Capt. Rich Lockhart of the Kansas City Police Department said Michael A. Smith, 54, was arrested Tuesday night on a municipal charge of disorderly conduct.
